If you’re based in Kenya, South Africa, or Nigeria and you’re between the ages of 21 and 25 with a matric or secondary school certificate, you can apply to be part of the Global Citizen fellowship Program!
This year marks the last year of the four-year Global Citizen Fellowship Program, powered by Beyoncé’s BeyGOOD. In this final year, they’re happy to announce that they’ll be expanding the program to Kenya.
Details
- Over the last four years, Global Citizen and BeyGOOD have been helping to enrich young lives through the Africa-based fellowship program.
- This year the foundation is delighted to announce that the applications will be open to three African countries, and they’ll be accepting applications from young changemakers in Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa.
- For this year’s fellowship program, Global Citizen will be accepting five fellows from each country to be part of the year-long experience. Each will be provided with the skills and resources needed to help them secure work beyond their time with Global Citizen.
- The Global Citizen Fellowship Program is funded by Tyler Perry through BeyGOOD. BeyGOOD, a division of Parkwood Entertainment, is a Global Citizen partner.

Phases
The Program consists of five (5) phases
- Phase 1: Interactive Modules
- Phase 2: Masterclasses
- Phase 3: Experiential Learning
- Phase 4: Placement & Mentorship
- Phase 5: Work Readiness
Eligibility Criteria
- Ages 21-25 (by time of application)
- South African, Nigerian and Kenyan residents and citizens only
- Applicants without a tertiary qualification preferred
- Applicants should be able to prove that they are active Global Citizens, either through the work they do in their communities or through Global Citizen’s website and/or app (Google Play Store OR App Store)
- Applicants should be available full-time from 19 July 2022-30 June 2023
- They encourage those with an annual family household income of under R120 000 / 3055563 Naira / KES 18169368,00, and/or families that are headed by a single parent
- South African applicants must house themselves in Johannesburg, and Nigerian applicants in Lagos
- Kenyan applicants can be based anywhere in the country, and will participate virtually.
- Those from minority and underrepresented communities are strongly encouraged to apply
How to Apply
Send them a two- to three-minute video answering the following questions:
- What qualities do you identify with as an active citizen of the world?
- If selected, what lasting change would you like to achieve through the program?
- What specific socio-economic issues are you taking action on, and why?
- If you prefer writing, you can send us a 500- to 700-word essay answering the same questions.
- Email your application to the e-mail address given on the official website and include a copy of your ID or passport. You can also send your application using WhatsApp by sending it to the number given on the official website.
*Keep in mind that applicants from minorities and underrepresented communities are strongly encouraged to apply.
