Variety – the Children’s Charity is pleased to announce the Heart Scholarships to support children with a demonstrated talent who are living with a disability, chronic illness or financial hardship, to reach the next stage of development in their talent.
Scholarships
If successful, and as a general rule, Variety will not consider another application for a Scholarship within the following 12 months.
- Usually one child per household can apply for a Scholarship at a time.
- Successive Scholarships are not guaranteed for previous recipients.
- If, unsuccessful applicants may wish to apply in the following round.
- Scholarships are available in the areas of the Arts, Music, Sports and Education.
- Scholarships can be made up to the value of usually $3,000, per application.
- Scholarship applications that receive approval may be allocated partial or full funding based on the recommendation of the Variety Grants Committee and at the discretion of the Board.
- No cash grants provided directly to the child/family. Variety makes direct payments to suppliers on invoice.
- Scholarships are valid for 12 months from the date of the Outcome Letter. All allocated funds must be spent within that period. Any unspent allocated funds will be rescinded.
- A Scholarship Update Report must be submitted within 2 months of completion of the grant (forms will be provided).
Examples of appropriate Scholarship requests
The Applicant can select one or more to form their Scholarship request. This will form the basis of the Scholarship and cannot be amended after the approval date.
- Training
- Registration/Entry/Competition (proof of ineligibility/decline of any government support is required)
- Advanced training or coaching
- Supplies/Resources
- Races
- Equipment
- Uniforms
- Travel for the child for air fares, bus fares, train fares, such as attending a competition (excluding car related expenses)
- Accommodation (for the child, such as attending a competition)
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be living in Tasmania.
- Applications can only be accepted for children aged under 18 years old.
- Applicants must have a demonstrated talent which has developed over time and can be identified by a child's achievements and verified (in a support letter) by a professional in the area of the child's talent.
- Net household income must be less than $90,000 per annum, across all income streams (dividends, investments , and salaries etc.)
