The HawkWatch International (HWI) has opened its Global Raptor Research & Conservation Grant under the “Investing in Others” initiative, aimed at supporting local conservation efforts for threatened and understudied raptor species around the world.
Each year, HWI prioritizes projects that engage local researchers and conservationists working in regions where raptor research is scarce, thereby fostering both scientific knowledge and practical action in vulnerable biodiversity areas.
Through this grant opportunity, applicants may request up to USD 3,500 for a single-species raptor project that either fills a major knowledge gap or implements an applied conservation action—such as habitat protection, threat mitigation, community-based monitoring or policy engagement. Preference is given to projects led by citizens or permanent residents of the country in which the work takes place, and to species classified as high-priority under HWI’s Raptor Research & Conservation Priority Index (RCPI).
Beyond just funding, awardees benefit from scientific mentorship, exposure within a global network of raptor researchers, and publicity of their results—helping to raise the profile of both the species and the individuals leading the work. Since inception, HWI has supported research on over 14 threatened and understudied raptor species across Asia, Africa and Latin America.
This grant offers a compelling opportunity for conservation biologists, field scientists, NGOs and research institutions working in regions where raptor populations face steep declines. By linking rigorous research with practical conservation, the HWI Global Raptor Research & Conservation Grant supports local leadership, enhances global knowledge and contributes to safeguarding raptors for the future. If your work aligns with the objectives of species conservation, habitat action and local capacity‐building, this opportunity is worth exploring.
