Aspire Coronation Trust (ACT) Foundation is currently accepting applications for the Changemakers Innovation Challenge 2020.
The Changemakers Innovation Challenge is conceived by ACT Foundation as a response to the impressive work of community nonprofits and social enterprises in Africa who are leveraging technology/ digital tools to create social change in their communities. Research shows that most nonprofits using technology/ digital tools to drive projects and develop communities are coming ahead in the world and also creating a lasting impact.
Award Information
- Award total of 15,000,000 (Naira) will be given to the three winners;
- The Award grant will be given towards scaling of the innovative solutions across different communities.
Focus Areas
- Health
- Their goal is to facilitate better health care services for the vulnerable and marginalized groups in their society.
- To achieve this goal, the ACT foundation will support initiatives in the following areas:
- Malaria
- Cancer
- Maternal and child health
- Environment
- In a joint report by WHO & UNICEF (August 2004), it was stated that about 2.4 billion people will likely face the risk of needless diseases and death by the target of 2015 because of bad sanitation such as decaying or non-existent sewage systems which will fuel the spread of diseases like cholera and diarrhea which kills 1 child every 21 seconds.
- Entrepreneurship
- The United Nations Sustainable Development Report states that the percentage of people living below the extreme poverty line dropped by half between 2002 and 2012, from 26 to 13 percent. This translated to one in eight people worldwide living in extreme poverty in 2012. Poverty remains widespread in Sub-Saharan Africa, where more than 40 percent of people lived on less than 1.90 US dollars a day in 2013.
- Leadership
- They recognize that they have leadership challenges as a nation and a continent, therefore, there is a need to build a new generation of credible, accountable, and ethical leaders who will propel the continent towards effective and sustainable economic and human development as well as peace and security.
Eligibility Criteria
- The Changemakers Innovation Challenge is open to only nonprofits and social enterprises in Africa. For social enterprises, the innovative solution submitted must not be towards for-profit ventures. (It must be fully towards social good)
- Organizations must submit social solutions within the ACT Foundation’s key focus areas, namely; Health, Entrepreneurship, Environment, and Leadership.
- Nonprofits or social enterprises must be registered with the government agency in charge of the organizations’ registry.
- All submissions must be innovative solutions that use technology/digital systems as major tools for the community impact. Show evidence of claim through the provision of weblinks and other online presence.
- Organizations must have been in existence for at least two years.
- All submitted social solutions must be at the growth stage and must have been tested/implemented and have direct beneficiaries. Evidence of claim through pictures, news releases, etc. must be documented and shared during the application.
- Submitted innovations must have been implemented before.
