If the organization you belong to is interested in strengthening or developing practices in digital, physical or psychosocial security, this is your opportunity. During the month of February Digital Defenders Partnership will select 4 organizations from Latin America and the Caribbean to be part of the 2024 cohort of their Digital Protection Accompaniment program.
In 2015, the Digital Protection Accompaniment program was created with the objective of accompanying and promoting sustainable holistic protection within organizations, networks or groups of people who defend Human Rights in Latin America and the Caribbean. The long-term support model that was developed within DDP is focused on providing support of at least 6 to 18 months, which is carried out by a Digital Protection Facilitator (DPF).
Digital protection facilitators provide support to organizations, networks or groups with the aim of increasing awareness of digital security issues, and developing effective and resilient practices and habits in terms of digital, physical or psychosocial protection for the sustainability of the organizations. rights defenders.
Objectives of Support for Digital Protection
- Support the medium and long-term strengthening of internal capabilities in digital and information security.
- Strengthen internal practices and habits on digital security and information management.
- Develop holistic internal security capabilities in the most necessary and relevant areas: from physical security to psychosocial support.
- Strengthen the infrastructure necessary for holistic protection.
Eligibility Criteria
- The call is aimed at organizations, collectives or networks in Latin America and the Caribbean that are part of the DDP priority groups, that is, those that:
- They make information available to the public (journalists, communicators, community communicators, etc.).
- belong to or work with Afro-descendant communities.
- belong to or work with communities with disabilities.
- They work for the environment or with people who defend the territory.
- They defend women’s rights or feminist activists.
- They belong to or work with indigenous peoples.
- belong to or work with LGTBIQA+ activists.
Criteria
- Be part of the DDP priority groups.
- Have the support of your management for the implementation of support.
- Have two people with free time to serve as focal points and follow up on the activities that will be carried out during the accompaniment.
- Have the possibility of dedicating time and space to the activities that will be carried out within the framework of the accompaniment (approximately 4 hours per week synchronous and 4 hours asynchronous).
- Be at risk (medium or high) of having their physical or digital vulnerabilities exploited due to their work defending human rights.
- Have suffered or observed relevant security incidents in the last 12 months, which do not apply for an emergency grant
- Being an organization, collective or trusted network, meaning that your work has the endorsement of your peers.
- Having taken into account the particular needs of people with respect to gender, sexual orientation, ability, language, etc., in the design of this proposal.
- Having foreseen the possible risks or setbacks associated with the project and having evaluated that these risks are acceptable.
- Not be supported by another DDP fund or be a direct beneficiary of current partners of the Regional Alliance Fund.
