The City of Ballarat is now inviting applications for its Ballarat Senior of the Year Awards to recognise the contribution older people in Ballarat make to the community.
The Awards celebrate the people of Ballarat whose volunteer involvement supports and inspires others in the community.
They invite you to nominate colleagues, friends or family members to be considered for the 2022 Ballarat Senior of the Year Award categories.
Categories
- The categories are:
- Volunteering Award: For exceptional contribution by an individual to their community
- Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Award: For an individual who has contributed significantly to a fairer, more accessible community for all. This person is dedicated to building an inclusive culture that encourages, supports and celebrates the diverse voices. This may include excellence in representing or advocating on behalf of communities such as LGBTIQA+, Disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, Multicultural or other diverse groups, improving community inclusion, or a project that improves social connection and participation.
- Healthy and Active Living Award: For an individual for helping to create active and healthy communities through community involvement and as a role model.
- Ageing Well Award: For an individual who has worked to combat ageism, promote social justice and engage with their community to support ageing well initiatives.
- Senior of the year Award
Eligibility Criteria
- To be eligible for these Awards, the nominee must be an Australian citizen, a resident of or volunteer in the City of Ballarat local government area and be aged 55 years or over.
- Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander residents aged 50 years or over are eligible for nomination.
- Nominees will be assessed on their volunteer contribution and achievements since reaching the qualifying age.

- Nominees will be assessed on:
- How they make a difference to community wellbeing through volunteering
- Their good standing in the community
- How their positive attitude to ageing inspires others
