Nominations are now open for the BBC Radio Derby Make a Difference Awards to act in the public interest, serving all audiences through the provision of impartial, high-quality, and distinctive output and services which inform, educate and entertain.
The BBC Make a Difference Awards recognize unsung heroes from across the county, with entries being sought in a variety of categories to reflect everything from good neighbors to voluntary work. The BBC Radio Derby team will collect and process your personal data and the personal data of the person you nominate for the purposes of administering the BBC Radio Derby make a difference awards.
Categories
- Great Neighbor or Friend: awarded to an individual or group who has gone out of their way to support others, either on a regular basis or through a single act of kindness.
- Young Hero: an individual under the age of 18 who stands out as a real role model for young people and has made a Difference in something they have achieved.
- Healthcare Hero: an individual or group in a caring or healthcare profession – paid or unpaid – who has gone over and above to keep people safe and well during this last year.
- Unsung Hero: awarded to an individual whose quiet determination deserves some recognition
- Top Fundraiser: Awarded to an individual or group who has gone the extra mile to raise funds for a charity or good cause.
- Extra Smile Award: for someone who has raised people’s spirits or gone out of their way to make people happy.
- The Maria Lawrence Community Hero Award: In memory of Derby’s ‘Secret Santa’ who died of COVID – this will be awarded to an individual who has helped to make a real difference to their community.
Eligibility Criteria
- In order to nominate someone, you must be a UK resident (including Channel Islands and the Isle of Man) and not be a BBC or BBC Group company employee, employee of any of its affiliates, close relative of any such employees or connected to the awards competition directly or through a close relative. You cannot nominate yourself.
- Any person who is a resident in or travels on a typically daily basis (e.g. for work and does not need to include weekends or bank holidays) to Derbyshire and East Staffordshire can be nominated for an award, except BBC or BBC Group company employees, employees of any of its affiliates, close relatives of any such employees or connected to the award directly or through a close relative. Proof of age, identity and eligibility may be requested.
- A panel formed of five core judges will select a shortlist of four finalists per category and then one guest judge will select one winner per each category from the finalists.
- The BBC’s decision as to the winners is final. No correspondence relating to the awards will be entered.
- The prize will consist of a trophy. There is no cash alternative and the prize cannot be sold or transferred in any circumstances. No commercial gain can be made from using or referencing the BBC brand, the award itself or any other element of this awards process.
- Nominees must agree to take part in any post-award publicity if required.
- The BBC reserves the right to:
- vary these Terms, including but not limited to, opening and close times of the awards nominations;
- disqualify any nomination that breaches the rules, is fraudulent in any way or brings the BBC into disrepute;
- move nominees into another category should they see fit and
- cancel the awards, at any stage, if in its opinion it is deemed necessary or if circumstances arise outside its control.
