Deadline: 28-Aug-2025
The Western Australian Planning Commission is inviting nominations for the WA Coastal Awards for Excellence. These awards aim to support efforts that enhance, rehabilitate, and adapt Western Australia’s vast coastline in response to environmental threats and pressures.
Nominations are open to individuals, community groups, schools, local and state government agencies, and non-government organisations. The awards recognise those who have shown commitment and success in sustainable coastal planning and management in Western Australia.
There are several award categories. The Coastal Champion category honours individuals or groups for their leadership, stewardship, and dedication to coastal conservation. The Coastal Planning and Design award is given for outstanding plans, strategies, or coastal developments that are innovative, sustainable, and enhance the long-term future of the coast.
The Coastal Management category recognises projects that support sustainable beach and foreshore use, improve natural coastal environments, and showcase best practice in management. The Education, Engagement, Science and Research award celebrates initiatives that educate and engage communities, build capacity in coastal zone management, or apply research to conserve and protect coastal areas.
The Coastal Adaptation award acknowledges on-ground projects that manage coastal hazards through adaptation and resilience-building efforts.
Anyone can submit a nomination, including self-nominations or nominations of others. All eligible nominees must fall into one of the accepted groups: individuals, community groups, schools, local governments, state agencies, or NGOs.
