Deadline: 15-Nov-2025
The Predoctoral Grant Program provides support to promising predoctoral fellows in the conduct of research projects aimed at testing new and innovative ideas that will expand or advance drug development for Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) disease.
The ERA Predoctoral Grants aim to attract emerging researchers to the field of CMT by fostering innovative thinking and supporting projects that generate preliminary data for larger studies. These grants emphasize research addressing major gaps in CMT drug development, with priority given to projects focused on improving drug delivery to the peripheral nervous system, exploring new or optimized delivery methods, studying the blood nerve barrier and affected cell types, identifying novel therapeutics or drug targets, enhancing clinical translation through improved models or biomarkers, and other impactful areas pre-approved by CMTRF following a Letter of Intent submission.
The ERA Predoctoral Grants offer funding of up to $25,000 for one year to support salary or project-related costs, with no indirect costs allowed. An additional $1,500 may be requested for travel, which awardees are encouraged to use for attending the Global CMT Research Convention in 2025 or 2026, for which registration will be provided free of charge.
Applicants must be junior researchers enrolled in doctoral training programs such as MD, PhD, or MD/PhD and must be conducting their research under mentorship within a PI sponsor’s lab or in collaboration with external mentors. Applications are open globally, and the research must relate to CMT drug development within academic or non-profit institutions, as industry researchers are not eligible.
Applicants are highly encouraged to submit a short two- to three-page Letter of Intent (LOI) before the full proposal to receive feedback from CMTRF. The LOI should include applicant and mentor details, project title and budget, areas of focus, and a project summary covering the rationale, aims, preliminary results, research plan, timeframe, and references. Feedback will be provided within four weeks of submission.
The deadline for applications is 15 November 2025.
