Deadline: 29-Aug-2025
The Climate & Clean Air Coalition Project is supporting Cameroon in scaling up investment in organic waste management. This initiative was launched in response to a request from Cameroon’s Ministry of Environment, Protection of Nature and Sustainable Development.
The project focuses on reducing short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs), particularly methane emissions from landfills. These reductions will bring immediate health and environmental benefits while aligning with global climate goals.
One of the main goals is to develop a detailed organic waste management roadmap for Cameroon. Based on this roadmap, the project will introduce capacity-building programs tailored for local government authorities, private waste management stakeholders, and civil society groups. These programs will involve training sessions, workshops, and awareness campaigns to promote the use of organic waste reduction technologies and best practices.
The initiative also aims to identify and secure external funding to implement these mitigation strategies. By creating well-structured proposals that align with international SLCP reduction goals, Cameroon hopes to attract national and international investment, helping to establish a sustainable waste management system.
The estimated cost of the project is $150,000. Key expected outputs include the organic waste management roadmap, enhanced capacity to monitor and report methane emissions, and a financing framework to ensure long-term sustainability.
The expected results by the end of the project are that the Government of Cameroon will adopt the roadmap, improve its ability to manage organic waste and reduce SLCPs, enhance tracking of waste and emissions, and support a financing strategy for future sustainability.
Eligible applicants must be NGOs, IGOs, or other non-profit organizations. Proposals must fit within the budget or provide justification for extra expenses, last under 24 months, and follow budget guidelines. Applicants must also submit the past three audited financial statements upon request.
For-profit entities can participate only as stakeholders, co-funders, or end users. Their inclusion is encouraged if their role is vital to the success of the project.
Proposals will be evaluated based on their clarity, scalability, emissions reduction potential, stakeholder involvement, risk awareness, complementarity with other efforts, applicant capacity, and cost-effectiveness. Projects must also meet the OECD DAC gender equality marker Score 1.
