YMCA of Southwestern Ontario is pleased to announce the Sarnia-Lambton Celebration of Youth Awards.
The awards focus on youth who have demonstrated leadership, sensitivity to others, innovation, development of personal talents, overcoming personal challenge and service to community. Special consideration is given to youth faced with financial barriers.
Award recipients embody the YMCA core values of:
- Caring – They can be trusted to do the right thing;
- Honesty – They keep the promises, and they do what they say they will;
- Respect – They believe in the good within people;
- Responsibility – They are leaders, and set an example for others;
- Inclusiveness – They create a place for everyone at the YMCA.
Funding Information
- After completing a comprehensive application and interview process, the successful recipients will receive a $1,000 award.

Volunteerism, Advocacy & Community Service
- This category recognizes candidates who go above and beyond, who foster goodwill, and who strive to make a difference in his / her community through volunteer work and causes they are passionate about.
- This category recognizes candidates who advocate for those with special needs or special education requirements, works or volunteers to improve their lives and their contributions to their community. This category also recognizes candidates who express himself/herself well on behalf of Canada, possesses an affinity for travel and governmental affairs at both the international and the civic levels, and can demonstrate leadership through humanitarian work.

Health, Wellness & Perseverance
- This category recognizes candidates who have worked hard to overcome personal obstacles and/or hardships, which may or may not include mental health issues; or who have advocated for others through their actions and/or community leadership.

Skills Development & Creative Expression
- This category recognizes candidates who have shown exceptional leadership skills and service to the community and are committed to improving life for themselves and their families. Candidates should articulate how they have successfully addressed challenges in their lives. The successful candidates will have demonstrated leadership skills through planning, listening, and mentorship; along with the ability to collaborate and work well with others.

Terms and Conditions
- Applicants must be planning on pursuing post-secondary education within two years of application submission deadline.
- Applicants must agree to allow the YMCA to publicize the recipients in the media or other forms as deemed proper and necessary by the YMCA.
- Applicants must agree that the recipient of the awards will, upon request from the YMCA, attend public events related to the award.
- Recipients will be asked to attend the YMCA’s Celebration of Youth Awards Event, at which time the recipient will be officially and publicly recognized.
