Deadline: 03-Oct-2025
The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund has launched an initiative in Switzerland’s Canton de Vaud to strengthen humanitarian WASH response and preparedness through the development of robust analytical tools.
The program focuses on enhancing the capacity of national WASH coordination platforms and their partners by providing practical, tested modules within the WASH in Emergencies Assessment (WIA) framework.
The effort begins with the inception, planning, and design phase, where at least ten priority modules will be confirmed through consultations with stakeholders. Each module will be built around a clear conceptual framework that outlines its definition, rationale, indicators, and data sources, supported by a detailed work plan and methodology.
Following the design phase, the modules will undergo feasibility testing and validation. Draft versions will be applied in selected countries to evaluate their practicality, the performance of indicators, and how well they integrate with the WIA base score. Technical experts and country-level analysts will then review and refine the results, ensuring that each module is reliable and effective for use in real-world emergency contexts.
The final stage will focus on documentation and capacity building. Each validated module will be packaged with methodology sheets, calculation protocols, and interpretation guidelines. UNICEF will also produce training and dissemination materials to integrate these modules into the WIA toolkit, ensuring that stakeholders are equipped to apply them effectively.
By June 2026, UNICEF and its partners expect to deliver ten fully validated WIA modules that will significantly improve evidence-based decision-making in humanitarian WASH planning, preparedness, and advocacy worldwide. This initiative underscores UNICEF’s commitment to advancing practical solutions that support vulnerable communities during crises.
