The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission is currently accepting applications for its Digital Society Research Grant for Industry to grow the evidence base necessary for the nation to optimize the advancements made in communications infrastructure and service deployment, which will assist the development of policy, programmes, and interventions.
This grant aims to promote the inclusion and participation of all population segments as the nation transitions towards being a fully digitally connected and informed society.
The research proposals are guided by the following four Focus Areas: Digital Citizenship & Cyberwellness (DCC): Aims to elicit research clarifying regulatory and developmental gap areas influencing participation, positive uptake and wellness in an increasingly digitally dependent world; Digital Inclusion (DI): Seeks to clarify regulatory and developmental gaps in areas related to factors that impede equality of access and challenge the paradigm of ensuring that no one is left behind or is deprived of digital connectivity and its benefits; Future of Work (FW): Aims to clarify gap areas related to work transformations and the evolving skills needed due to digitalisation, technological advances and changing workforce expectations, and develop strategies to equip individuals and organisations for success; and Sustainability & Environment, Social, and Governance (SESG): Aims to clarify gap areas impacting the environmental footprint of technology, social and ethical factors, sustainable business practices, and initiatives in the C&M industry and supporting national Sustainable Development Goals.
The grant is open to full-time academic faculty members with a doctoral degree from private and public Higher Educational Institutions (HEI). The lead researcher must have an appointment with a local HEI for at least the duration of the proposed research project. The research team must comprise at least two researchers. The salary of the researchers cannot be financed from this grant, and members cannot be paid for any professional services for the research work from the awarded amount.
The grant amount is up to ten thousand Ringgit Malaysia (RM10,000), depending on the type and scope of the research project. The project duration is up to nine months, comprising six months for research activities until the submission of the research report, and three months for administrative closure.
Proposals can be submitted in English or Malay and must be verified by the respective HEI Research Management Centres. The submission must include the curriculum vitae of the lead researcher and team members, certified true copies of the highest academic certificates, and a copy of the latest published research paper or article by the lead researcher. The proposals will be evaluated based on their quality, research impact, alignment with internal requirements, suitability of the applicant, and feasibility.
