The AI for Climate Resilience Program is a new initiative launched by Klarna to support innovative projects that use artificial intelligence to enhance climate adaptation in underserved and climate-vulnerable regions. The focus is on empowering local communities to better cope with the impacts of climate change and build lasting resilience.
Projects funded under this program may work toward improving food security, strengthening healthcare systems, or increasing coastal resilience in areas facing severe climate risks. Klarna will provide selected projects with grants of up to $300,000 along with access to mentors, training, and a supportive community of practice.
The initiative seeks to support outcomes such as organizing local knowledge into actionable insights, developing practical AI tools for real-world use like advisory apps for farmers, and enhancing existing AI solutions for broader adoption. Projects may also contribute to the ecosystem by sharing datasets or best practices.
To qualify, proposals must tackle a specific climate challenge aligned with the program’s goals, be focused on real-world implementation, and demonstrate a clear, responsible use of AI. Proposals should support climate-vulnerable communities in low- and middle-income countries and must have a strong public-benefit focus, with for-profit entities needing to prove equitable and community-centered outcomes.
The program does not support short-term emergency aid, purely research-based or undeployable concepts, GHG-reduction-only projects, or generic services without clear community adaptation impact. It also excludes projects lacking solid AI risk governance strategies.
