Deadline: 28-Sep-2025
The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) has announced new funding to support the Nonhuman Primate Reagent Resource (NHPRR), a program designed to provide the scientific community with vital immunologic reagents for nonhuman primate research.
This initiative will ensure the continued development, production, and distribution of high-quality tools that are often unavailable commercially or not optimized for use in NHP studies.
The NHPRR plays a critical role in advancing biomedical research by supplying key reagents such as monoclonal antibodies, soluble receptors and ligands, chimeric antibodies, and other novel immunologic products. These tools support both in vitro and in vivo applications, including the assessment of immune responses, imaging of immune molecules, and the development of immune-based therapeutics. The resource will not only maintain and distribute the approximately 258 reagents already available but also develop new products in response to evolving scientific needs.
To enhance accessibility, the program will operate a public website that features a searchable reagent catalog with technical specifications, usage protocols, and a database of immunologic reagents known to cross-react with NHP cells and proteins. This platform will serve as a hub for information sharing and community engagement, ensuring that researchers can access the resources they need efficiently.
The NOFO will provide approximately $1.3 million in Fiscal Year 2026 to fund one award. The selected institution will manage the full spectrum of reagent-related activities, from acquisition and production to quality control and distribution, while also engaging with the scientific community to identify emerging priorities. The maximum project period allowed is five years.
Eligibility for this opportunity is broad, encompassing higher education institutions, nonprofit organizations, for-profit entities, local and state governments, tribal governments, and certain federal agencies. Faith-based, community-based, and regional organizations are also eligible to apply. However, non-domestic organizations and non-U.S. components of U.S.-based institutions are not eligible.
Through this investment, NIAID seeks to sustain and strengthen the infrastructure supporting immunologic research in nonhuman primates,
