Deadline: 19-Sep-2025
Entries are now open for the International Zendal Awards, which aim to promote, recognize, and reward global research and knowledge in the field of biotechnology.
Zendal focuses on improving quality of life through the research and development of medicines, especially vaccines, for disease prevention in both humans and animals. The company integrates sustainability and biodiversity into all areas of its work, acknowledging the close relationship between human, animal, and environmental health.
Addressing health challenges with a comprehensive, ecosystem-aware approach is at the core of Zendal’s mission. This vision underpins the 6th edition of the International Zendal Awards, which supports and celebrates scientific contributions to biotechnology on a global scale.
The awards are divided into two categories. The Human Healthcare Award supports institutions working to improve human welfare in healthcare and disease prevention. The Animal Healthcare Award supports organizations contributing to animal welfare in the same fields. Both awards are given as donations to eligible institutions such as universities, government bodies, NGOs, foundations, research institutes, or startups.
The Human Healthcare Award carries a prize of €40,000, while the Animal Healthcare Award offers €25,000.
Winners are selected through a jury evaluation process. Projects are scored based on their scientific and technical quality, feasibility, innovation, knowledge transfer, and impact on health, wellbeing, and sustainability. Only one winner is selected per category.
Applications can be submitted in either Spanish or English. Each entry must include a completed application form, a letter of support from a relevant external authority, and a detailed project report.
The project report must be no more than five pages and include the title, award category, hosting institution, details of the principal investigator and team, abstract, background, objectives, methodology, expected results and impact, and references. Optional additions include the principal investigator’s CV and further details on innovation, benefits, and potential challenges.
Applicants may submit multiple distinct projects, but duplicate submissions of the same project are not permitted. Projects at any stage prior to commercialization are eligible.
