Deadline: 10-Oct-2025
The Biomedical Catalyst Managing Chronic Conditions Accelerator Programme supports early-stage life science companies targeting unmet needs in disease prevention or the proactive management of chronic conditions.
The focus is on unmet needs in disease prevention or proactive management of chronic conditions, including therapeutics and disease-modifying interventions, digital health/virtual care delivery, and patient engagement and self-management tools. Companies may be targeting a single condition or multiple long-term conditions, with solutions that could be applied across disease prevention, early detection and diagnosis, proactive management, and supportive and long-term care.
The programme, funded by Innovate UK in collaboration with the Medical Research Council as part of the Biomedical Catalyst, provides expert commercial support and access to grant funding. Female founders developing therapeutics are a particular group of interest. The Accelerator begins with a Pre-Accelerator Workshop, where participants are introduced to entrepreneurial methods to test assumptions and validate ideas. Selected projects move on to the Accelerator, where they receive one-to-one coaching, attend weekly sessions, and engage with life sciences leaders to develop their idea into a minimum viable product.
Graduates from the Accelerator will gain exclusive access to a closed grant funding competition, enabling them to develop their innovations further. Additionally, top performers may secure equity investment upon completion of the programme. Participants also benefit from a wide expert network, talks from investors and product specialists, and stipends for customer discovery and testing.
Eligibility requires applicants to be UK-based SMEs or academic/researchers planning to spin out before the programme ends. They should be in the early development phase with a prototype or minimum viable product and working on innovative solutions that address chronic conditions.
The Pre-Accelerator will support up to 60 projects, with 20 advancing to the main Accelerator Programme. Participation is cost-free and equity-free, though certain sessions in London are mandatory.
