Deadline: 13-Aug-2025
The World Food Programme (WFP) is now accepting grant applications for the implementation of general food assistance, nutrition, digital and financial inclusion, resilience, and self-reliance programs in the Palorinya Refugee Settlement and its host district in Northern Uganda.
This initiative supports two pillars of the Comprehensive Refugee Response Framework: Emergency Response and Ongoing Needs, and Resilience and Self-Reliance. It aims to ensure that refugees, host communities, and other crisis-affected populations have access to sufficient and nutritious food during emergencies, while also helping them transition toward resilience and independence.
WFP collaborates with Cooperating Partners (CPs) to address the diverse needs of over one million refugees and host communities across Uganda. These partners play a vital role in delivering assistance efficiently, safely, and responsibly, while maintaining accountability to WFP and the communities served.
Key areas of focus include food security, cash and food assistance, livelihoods, community mobilization, microfinance, self-reliance, nutrition, and protection. Specialized nutrition interventions focus on infant and young child feeding as well as prevention and treatment of malnutrition. Protection services are also part of the program.
The expected results of this effort include providing food-insecure refugees and asylum seekers with in-kind or cash assistance and nutrition-sensitive social and behavior change communication (SBCC). These communities will also be connected to additional interventions to meet their food and nutrition needs.
Nutritionally vulnerable children under five and pregnant or breastfeeding women and girls will receive nutrient-rich foods and SBCC support to help prevent and manage malnutrition. The program also aims to build the capacity of government institutions and other stakeholders to better target and assist at-risk households.
The initiative supports refugees and host communities with productive assets, training, and capacity development to help build diverse livelihoods and improve food security through a coordinated, multi-sectoral approach. It encourages social empowerment and mindset shifts.
Participants will benefit from increased income and food production using climate-smart agriculture and diverse, demand-driven livelihood strategies. The program also promotes the digitization of Village Savings & Loans Associations (VSLAs) and strengthens links to formal financial service providers.
