Open Minds is excited to launch the Queensland Mental Health Week Achievement Awards.
The Queensland Mental Health Week Achievement Awards recognize and celebrate the achievements of individuals, groups and organizations working tirelessly to reduce stigma and support and empower those living with mental illness.
The 2022 Awards will be presented at a ceremony in Brisbane on Friday 14th October 2022 – during Queensland Mental Health Week and close to World Mental Health Day.
Awards Categories
- Schools Award: This new category for is open to any school who demonstrates a whole-of-school approach to promoting the mental health and wellbeing of their students. Schools do this through creating safe, inclusive and supportive environments that nurture students to develop social and emotional capabilities and to promote positive mental health and wellbeing so they become confident and resilient young people.
- Early Years Award: This category is open to any organization which focuses on supporting the best start for young Queenslanders (children and/or parents) from conception through to infancy (up to 4 years of age).
- Jeff Cheverton Individual Award: This category is open to any individual who has made an outstanding contribution to mental health in Queensland through their commitment to improving the quality of life of Queenslanders living with mental illness and by promoting their inclusion in the broader community.
- Jude Bugeja – Peer Experience Award: This category is open to any individual or group who through their direct experience with mental illness demonstrates a significant contribution to improving the lives of people with mental illness and their families and/or carers.
- LGBTI Award: This category is open to any individual or organization that through the provision of mental health related services, programs, projects or initiatives demonstrates a commitment to improving the life of Queenslanders who are LGBTI and living with mental illness, and by promoting their inclusion in the community.
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Award: This category is open to any individual or organization that through the provision of mental health related services, programs, projects or initiatives demonstrates a commitment to improving the life of Queenslanders who are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and living with mental illness, and by promoting their inclusion in the community.
- Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) Award: This category is open to any individual or organization that through the provision of culturally appropriate mental health related services, programs, projects or initiatives demonstrates a commitment to improving the life of Queenslanders who are Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) and living with mental illness, and by promoting social inclusion and participation.
- Not-For-Profit Organization Award – SME (1-100 Staff): This category is open to any organization that through the provision of mental health related services, programs, projects or initiatives demonstrates a commitment to improving the quality of life of Queenslanders living with mental illness and by promoting their inclusion in the broader community.
- Not-For-Profit Organization Award – Large (101+ Staff): This category is open to any organization that through the provision of mental health related services, programs, projects or initiatives demonstrates a commitment to improving the quality of life of Queenslanders living with mental illness and by promoting their inclusion in the broader community.
- Workplace Award – SME (1-200 Staff): This award is open to any employer who through the implementation of innovative workplace practices or initiatives has demonstrated excellence in the promotion of positive mental health to all employees and supports the inclusion of employees living with mental health issues.
- Workplace Award – Large (201+ Staff): This award is open to any employer who through the implementation of innovative workplace practices or initiatives has demonstrated excellence in the promotion of positive mental health to all employees and supports the inclusion of employees living with mental health issues.
- Earle Duus – Overarching Award: This Award is presented in recognition of individuals or an organization making significant contributions to people living with mental illness. This Award is presented to one of their eleven category winners and carries a prize of $4,000 for the winner to continue their great work in the mental health sector.

Eligibility Criteria
Anyone who works to improve mental health can nominate for an award. Just being an award finalist gives individuals and organizations fantastic PR and media coverage. They usually receive nominations from:
- People nominating themselves or colleagues
- Not-for-profit organizations
- Workplaces
- Groups
