The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) is inviting expressions of interest for recognition as ICMR Collaborating Centres of Excellence. As the apex body for biomedical research in India, ICMR is dedicated to promoting and supporting research that improves the health of citizens and positions India as a global leader in health.
ICMR acknowledges the country’s growing prominence in health research, supported by numerous institutions from public and private sectors, including medical colleges and NGOs. The goal is to foster a sustainable ecosystem for collaborative, multidisciplinary biomedical research.
The purpose of this initiative is to recognize research groups with recent excellent research achievements as Centres of Excellence. It also aims to strengthen collaboration between ICMR and these centres, as well as among the centres themselves. Additionally, it seeks to enhance national resources in information, services, research, and training to support health development in India.
The recognition is granted for five years. Eligible applicants are Indian research institutes or organizations with experienced research teams led by senior principal investigators. These teams must have an excellent track record of impactful health research publications and have demonstrated collaboration with ICMR.
Applicants should be willing to contribute to ICMR’s objectives on an honorary basis, including roles such as adjunct faculty or assisting with proposal development. They must also be prepared to work with ICMR on national public health priorities.
Research teams from various fields, including basic, translational, clinical, laboratory-based, and population-based research, are encouraged to apply. Eligible organizations include public and private institutions, NGOs, academic institutions, medical colleges, universities, veterinary colleges, and engineering colleges.
