The MOORE Equity in Mental Health Community Grants Program was established in 2021 by APA’s Division of Diversity and Health Equity (DDHE) and the APA Foundation to support community organizations that have undertaken innovative awareness programs and/or provided services to improve the mental health of young people of color.
The focus areas include delivering innovative programming that addresses mental health and substance use disorder inequities, promoting awareness of mental health and substance use disorder inequities, increasing equitable access to mental health and substance use disorder care, and enhancing the quality of culturally and linguistically appropriate services in mental health and substance use disorder care.
This program provides a total award of $10,000 for a two-year funding period, contingent on successful completion of the first year. The application cycle is open annually from August 1 to September 30.
To be eligible, applicants must be U.S.-based nonprofit community organizations certified as tax-exempt under IRS Section 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), or 501(c)(6). They must address at least one of the stated initiatives, demonstrate recent efforts toward addressing inequities experienced by young people of color, and provide a scalable and sustainable plan. Organizations must have been operational for at least two consecutive years and commit to participating in quarterly program meetings. For unincorporated state or community coalitions, a designated fiscal agent must be identified in the application, with the same operational requirements applied.
The program will not provide grants to individuals, for-profit organizations, entities without valid IRS tax-exempt status, organizations that engage in discriminatory practices, or those requesting funding for capital improvement initiatives.
