The Cancer Research Horizons is accepting applications for Innovation & Entrepreneurship Awards.
The Foundation are recognising the UK’s most innovative and enterprising efforts to translate discoveries into benefit for cancer patients.
They’re celebrating the UK’s most innovative and enterprising efforts in oncology with the annual awards, at The Royal Society, London on 6 December.
Categories
- Award categories open for nomination include:
- Early-career Entrepreneur of the Year: This award celebrates early-career cancer researchers who have shown entrepreneurial initiative and attitude.
- Woman Entrepreneur of the Year: This award celebrates the outstanding achievements of women entrepreneurs, at any stage of their career. Nominees will have established or are working to establish a business, or have set up a transformative partnership to accelerate scientific discoveries into novel treatments, diagnostics and/or medical devices that benefit cancer patients.
- New Startup of the Year: This award celebrates new UK-based companies. Nominees will be fast-tracking their scientific breakthroughs into new treatments, diagnostics and/or medical devices that benefit cancer patients.
- Startup Achievement of the Year: This award celebrates startup companies that have achieved substantial milestones during the previous two years. Milestones could include pipeline developments, closure of financing rounds, and/or entering strategic partnerships or a significant exit.
- Further, Faster, Together (Industry-Academia Collaboration): This award celebrates innovation in oncology achieved through industry-academia collaborations, including through partnerships, licenses, and knowledge exchange.
Benefits
- Early-career Entrepreneur of the Year
- The winning entry will receive £5,000 to be spent on learning and development, including mentorship, coaching, or professional courses.
- Woman Entrepreneur of the Year
- The winning entry will receive £5,000 to be spent on learning and development, including mentorship, coaching, or professional courses.
- New Startup of the Year
- The winning entry will receive £15,000 to support the development of their startup.
- Startup Achievement of the Year
- The winning entry will receive £15,000 to be spent on staff development and training, studentships and/or internship programmes.
- Further, Faster, Together (Industry-Academia Collaboration)
- The winning entry will receive £5,000 to be spent on team activities, learning and development, mentorship, coaching, or professional courses.
Ceremony
- All the shortlisted nominees will be invited to attend the awards ceremony, sponsored by Cancer Research Horizons, where the winner will be announced.
- It will provide a unique opportunity to network with a range of rising stars, seasoned entrepreneurs, industry experts, and inspiring keynotes.
- Taking place at The Royal Society in London on 6 December, this black-tie event will feature a drinks reception and gala dinner.
Eligibility Criteria
- Early-career Entrepreneur of the Year
- Be early-career researcher (PhD, postdoc or Group Leaders within 2-3 years of starting their independent research group)
- Have worked at a spin-out concept, but must not have received more than one round of funding (excluding previous accelerator prizes)
- Have shown their entrepreneurial mindset and have engaged with programmes encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship
- Be based in the UK
- Woman Entrepreneur of the Year
- Open to any women entrepreneur operating in the field of oncology
- Be based or have their chief operations in the UK
- New Startup of the Year
- Must have raised its first funding round in the last two years
- Be based in the UK
- Startup Achievement of the Year
- Have achieved a substantial milestone during the last two years
- Be based and/or have substantial operations in the UK
- Further, Faster, Together (Industry-Academia Collaboration)
- Teams must be UK-based
- Open to teams of any size working on a collaborative project between industry and academia
- The project may be a discrete part of a larger, ongoing industrial programme, or stand-alone
