The UN Human Rights Office for South-East Asia in Bangkok is now accepting applications from Thai human rights defenders to attend the Human Rights Defenders School Programme.
The course aims to strenghten the capacity of mid-level human rights professionals in Thailand. The programme, which started in 2015 with the support of the Delegation of the European Union in Thailand, saw at least 144 Thai human rights defenders, mostly women human rights defenders, trained on various aspects of human rights, including monitoring, documentation and investigation of human rights violations and abuses.
Programme Details
- When:
- The programme will be intensively conducted in two four-day periods. Applicants are required to attend both training sessions.
- The first period will take place from 3-6 July 2023 and will include sessions focusing on international human rights standards, human rights monitoring and documentation as well as interviewing skills, and physical and digital security training and engagement with government agencies.
- The second period will take place from 16-19 October 2023 and will cover international human rights treaties, UN human rights mechanisms, advocacy with the media, cooperation with UN human rights mechanisms, diplomatic communities, and civil society organizations.
- Where:
- The programme will be held at Nonthaburi Province, Thailand.
Eligibility Criteria
- Qualifications of the applicants:
- Human rights defenders working on civil and political rights; economic, social and cultural rights; children’s rights; labour rights; refugee and migrant rights; community human rights defenders; land rights activists; environmental human rights defenders; LGBTI rights, indigenous rights or others in Thailand
- Being able to attend both training sessions scheduled on 3-6 July 2023 and 16-19 October 2023. The UN Human Rights Office will cover travel, accommodation and a subsistence allowance for the successful candidates.
- Note: Women human rights defenders and human rights defenders operating in the provinces are encouraged to apply.
