Deadline: 17-Dec-21
Apply now for The Creative Power Award – a small grants programme designed to support creators working at the intersection of art and social justice.
The Creative Power Award was founded in 2020 by Rachel Hills and Simon Moss, two Australian culture creators in New York City. They got their start as volunteers and hobbyists, scrapping their way through early ideas, and they know how much of a difference it makes when you have a little bit of extra funding – and when you know that somebody believes in your work.
The Creative Power Award will fund projects from top-ranked down, and only stop when they run out of money. The number of winners will depend on how much each leading applicant asks for; but based on past experience they expect there will be 3-5 winners in 2022.
Benefits
Winners receive:
- Up to $2000 USD / $2500 AUD in funding.
- Monthly group mentoring sessions with fellow award winners, facilitated by Creative Power Award co-founder Rachel Hills.
- Access to an online social network for award winners past and present.
Eligibility Criteria
They are after creative cultural ideas that create dialogue, shift perceptions, and drive social change. The format is up to you: your project could be written, visual, film, audio, theatre, or something else entirely.
All applications need to meet three basic eligibility requirements:
- This award is for emerging creators. It’s not for salaried professionals running a project as part of your paid day job, or creators who are making a full-time living from their art. Side hustles, volunteers, freelancers welcome.
- Your project should be incomplete as of Dec 31st 2021, and completed by Dec 31st 2022.
- You are based in the USA or Australia.
Selection Criteria
Your application will be evaluated against five selection criteria.
- Social Purpose: How does your project create change on your chosen social issue?
- Creativity: How well do you use your chosen medium to tell a story about your social issue?
- Game changing: How will this grant help you complete your project?
- Track record: What have you created before that demonstrates that you can deliver on this project?
- Distribution plan: How are you going to get the world to engage with your work?
