Deadline: 21-Aug-2025
Applications are now open for the Hilden Charitable Fund Grants Programme. The Hilden Charitable Fund is a registered charity and grant-making foundation that supports small UK-based organisations working to promote social justice and reduce disadvantage. The fund offers flexible financial support in the form of unrestricted, core, or project-specific grants.
Eligible organisations can apply for up to two years of funding. Grants are typically awarded in the range of £5,000 to £7,000 per year. Projects must align with one of the fund’s key priorities: support for asylum seekers and refugees, or work related to penal affairs.
For asylum seekers and refugees, the fund aims to back organisations that deliver essential services, help individuals meet their basic needs, and promote community participation. These groups often face exclusion, poverty, and lack of access to opportunities, and the fund is committed to supporting their integration and well-being.
Under penal affairs, the fund is particularly focused on the needs of women in prison, especially those with caregiving responsibilities. They support initiatives that help prisoners maintain family relationships, access support inside prisons, and transition successfully into society post-release. While resettlement and rehabilitation are encouraged, projects focused solely on job-search or employment agency work are unlikely to be funded.
To be eligible, applicants must be UK-based and operate as a registered charity, CIO, CIC (limited by guarantee), charitable company (registered as both a charity and a company), or an excepted charity. The organisation’s total annual income should not exceed £250,000, based on the most recent financial accounts. If an organisation’s income exceeds this in the latest year but averages under £200,000 over three years, they may still apply.
The fund prefers to support existing small organisations rather than new ones. Most applicants should be able to submit at least one year of financial accounts to be considered.
Funding is not available for individuals, non-charitable activities, religious promotion, political campaigning, medical research, registered social landlords, healthcare services, purely fundraising roles, statutory services, or residential care facilities.
