Deadline: 8-December-2025
The selected Bajaj Visiting Research Fellow will be expected to be in residence for the Fall Semester of the Academic Year 2026–2027, from August 20, 2026, to December 20, 2026. During this time, the fellow will work directly with their selected faculty mentor on their personal research project while fully engaging with the intellectual life at the Mittal Institute and Harvard.
At the end of the residency, the fellow will present their research in a Mittal Institute seminar moderated by their faculty mentor. In addition to their independent work, fellows will also take part in grant and fellowship reviews, mentor graduate students, and collaborate on other events and projects hosted by the Institute.
The fellowship offers a gross stipend of $22,534, prorated to the duration of the term, paid biweekly. For foreign citizens, applicable taxes may be deducted at source, and Harvard’s International Payee Tax Compliance Office is available for related queries.
Fellows residing in South Asia are eligible for reimbursement of round-trip economy travel expenses and visa fees from South Asia to Boston. All stipends and reimbursements are limited to the appointment period.
While a desk space will be provided, fellows are responsible for arranging their own accommodation, as the Mittal Institute and Harvard University do not sponsor or procure housing.
To be eligible, applicants must hold a PhD. Preference will be given to scholars who have primarily been educated at institutions in South Asia and have not had prior opportunities to access Harvard’s resources. Those with a research interest in India will also be prioritized.
Applicants must submit all materials through the ARIeS online application form, including a five-page research plan, curriculum vitae, writing sample, a scan of their PhD diploma, and two letters of recommendation addressed to the Members of the Selection Committee.
Applications for the Academic Year 2026–2027 Fellowship are now open, with a submission deadline of Monday, December 8. Letters of recommendation are due by Wednesday, December 17, and decisions are typically made within two to three months of the deadline.
