Deadline: 01-Sep-2025
The Borrin Foundation is inviting applications for the Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga Postgraduate Scholarship, which supports a Māori scholar to pursue a postgraduate degree in law at a New Zealand university or an overseas institution in any jurisdiction, including multi-year programmes. A total funding pool of $80,000 is available, which may be awarded to one scholar or split between two recipients. The funding can be used to cover course fees, living expenses, and economy-class airfares.
Eligible applicants must be Māori LLB graduates from a New Zealand institution who wish to advance their legal studies. They should have a strong academic record, a connection to Te Ao Māori, and demonstrate future potential for Māori leadership in legal development and the legal profession.
To apply, candidates must first prepare all required documents before submitting through the online application system. They must complete the scholarship proposal template, which includes a proposal of up to five pages and a personal statement of up to two pages. Those applying for an LLM by coursework only should explain their study plan and focus. Applicants also need to provide a CV or resume of no more than three pages, copies of academic transcripts, and contact details for two referees who can provide written references. The Borrin Foundation will contact referees directly after the application deadline. All required documents should be uploaded in PDF format when completing the online application.
