Deadline: 18-Jan-2026
The Ibaraki Cultural Promotion Foundation has announced the opening of its annual Cultural Activity Grant aimed at supporting individual artists and groups in Ibaraki Prefecture who are engaged in original, self-directed cultural and artistic activities.
The invitation encourages applicants — both individuals and nonprofit groups — whose main base of operations lies within Ibaraki and who have a documented track record of creative output to apply for funding. Projects must showcase their work to the public and be prepared for implementation during the fiscal year spanning April 1 2026 to March 31 2027.
Eligible applicants must meet three key criteria: the applicant must have their base in Ibaraki, should have prior experience in cultural activity and must be capable of completing the project. Organisations must also have clear governance documents and demonstrated financial transparency, including submission of past financial records.
Projects not eligible include those whose primary purpose is educational (for schools), political or religious in nature, or those operated for profit.
The grant is divided into several funding streams depending on project type. For example, for standard cultural performance or exhibition projects, funding will cover up to half the eligible costs, with a cap at ¥200,000; for larger scale cultural & arts-promotion efforts there is a cap of ¥500,000. Equipment and publication-type support projects follow similar cost-sharing models and also uphold the half-cost rule.
For creative practitioners and arts organisations based in Ibaraki who are preparing new publications, performances, or cultural heritage activation projects, this grant presents a valuable opportunity to access public funding, gain regional recognition and contribute to the prefecture’s cultural vitality. Applicants are advised to review the revised grant guidelines and ensure that their project meets composition and public-presentation requirements ahead of the closing date.
