The Toi Foundation offers a range of funding opportunities to support community growth, development, and engagement across its region, which stretches from Mokau in the north to Tahora in the east and Nukumaru in the south.
These grants are designed to assist not-for-profit organisations and individuals who are making a positive impact in their communities through programmes, events, education, and development initiatives.
Annual Grants are available to help not-for-profit organisations with their operational costs. These grants support organisations that have a sustained community or regional impact rather than those that deliver one-off annual events. Eligible organisations must have an established office or branch within the region to oversee all local operations. Annual Grants start from $500 and may be received once per financial year between 1 April and 31 March, although organisations may still apply for other funding opportunities within the same year.
Capital Grants are intended to assist with the purchase or maintenance of capital assets and equipment that contribute to community benefit. These grants can be received once every two financial years and are available across various organisation types. Early childhood education providers, primary and intermediate schools can apply for up to $30,000, while secondary schools and initiatives with broader community or regional impact may receive up to $60,000.
Programme and Event Grants provide support to organisations hosting activities that deliver tangible benefits to the community. Eligible organisations may apply once per financial year. Early childhood education providers and primary or intermediate schools can access up to $30,000, secondary schools up to $40,000, and larger community or regional initiatives up to $60,000.
The Foundation also supports individuals through Individual Grants, aimed at helping with the costs of competitive representation and learning or development opportunities. These grants are available once per financial year and can be used to support participation in national or international events. Funding amounts vary, with up to $1,500 available for overseas representation and up to $750 for events within New Zealand. Training and development squads may receive up to $500. The Foundation also extends the same support to iwi or tribal waka of Taranaki for national and international events.
Eligible applicants include incorporated societies, charitable trusts, schools, and formally structured community groups. However, the Foundation does not fund sub-groups of entities, commercial or industry networks, corporate social clubs, political organisations, family trusts, or projects related to council-owned assets. Additionally, funding is not provided for alcohol, travel, accommodation, staff facilities, or fundraising initiatives.
Through these various grant programmes, the Foundation continues to invest in the strength and vitality of its communities, helping both organisations and individuals to achieve meaningful outcomes that contribute to a more connected and thriving region.
