Overview
The Action For Nature (AFN) International Young Eco-Hero Awards celebrate young changemakers making a difference in environmental conservation. The program honors projects that are self-initiated, hands-on, and contribute to protecting the natural world, promoting sustainability, and inspiring others.
Eligibility

Age: Applicants must be 8–16 years old on February 28 of the application year

Project Type: Action-based environmental projects, including advocacy, research, or conservation

Duration: Minimum 6 months, completed or nearing completion

Restrictions:

Projects must not be teacher-assigned or adult-led
-
No domestic or confined animal projects
-
Purely academic reports, compositions, or science fair-only projects are ineligible unless extended with additional environmental action

Previous winners, relatives of AFN board members, and active panel members or judges are ineligible

Project Requirements

Should demonstrate hands-on engagement with nature, such as habitat restoration, wildlife protection, or mitigation of environmental threats

Inventions require prior trials before submission

Science-based projects must include: hypothesis, methods, results, and a clear abstract highlighting impact

Projects of 2+ years or ongoing initiatives are preferred

Emphasis on originality, difficulty, organization, community impact, and long-term dedication
