Deadline: 1-December-2025
The journal seeks writing that explores the identities and experiences connected to the SWANA (Southwest Asian and North African) region and its diaspora, particularly those affected by empire and tyranny in places such as Armenia, Palestine, and Sudan.
Submissions are welcome from contributors worldwide, regardless of SWANA or Arab identity, as long as the work aligns with Mizna’s ethos and engages meaningfully with the social and political realities of its audiences.
Mizna encourages both new and returning contributors, valuing innovative and experimental literary forms. The publication accepts a wide range of work—including poetry, visual poetry, fiction, flash fiction, nonfiction, creative nonfiction, comics, collage, invented forms, and other hybrid or mixed print works—while maintaining consideration for the journal’s print format, technical capabilities, and production standards.
There are no submission fees for this opportunity. Selected contributors will receive a $200 honorarium, a one-year subscription to Mizna, and five copies of the published issue.
Each submission should include a short cover letter of no more than 200 words with the titles of submitted pieces, indication of any simultaneous submissions, a brief overview for prose works longer than two pages, an author bio of up to 50 words, and any additional information for the editorial team. Accepted file formats include .doc, .docx, or PDF for complex layouts.
Prose submissions should be double spaced and limited to 3000 words, while poetry submissions may include up to four poems of any length. Mizna welcomes a range of literary forms, including visual poetry and hybrid works, but does not consider visual art submissions.
Submissions are reviewed by Mizna’s editorial staff and a rotating selection committee, with accepted pieces undergoing an editorial process before print publication. Authors retain copyright while Mizna holds publication rights for print and online use.
