The Technology Development Board presents National Awards to industrial concerns for successful commercialization of indigenous technology.
The second category of award was introduced in 2000 for SSI units. It has been renamed as MSME award. From 2017 onwards, a new category of award called national award for start-up has been introduced to encourage & promote technologies developed by start-ups having potential for commercialization.
The TDB provides financial assistance to Indian industrial concerns and other agencies, attempting development and commercial application of indigenous technology, or adapting imported technology to wider domestic applications.
Objectives
The objectives are to:
- promote new ideas from small enterprises even at the risk of failures;
- encourage production of competitive consumer products;
- motivate industries and R&D institutions for product innovation;
- develop socially relevant and profitable technologies;
- identify and act in areas requiring strategic interventions;
- Invest in core Technological Strengths to Enable India Industry to Stand-up to the competitive Pressure and Become a global Player.
Award Categories
There are three categories of award, which are as following-
- National Award for the Successful Commercialization of Indigenous Technology
- This award will be given to an industrial concern which has successfully developed & commercialized an indigenous technology in or after April 2017. In case, the technology developer / provider and technology commercializer are two different organizations, each one would be eligible for award of 25 Lakh and a trophy.
- Cash Award of 25 Lakh
- Number of awards: One
- National Award for MSMES
- This award will be given to MSMEs which have successfully commercialized a product based on indigenous technology in or after April 2017.
- Cash Awards of 15 Lakh
- Number of awards: Three
- National Award for Technology Start-Ups
- This award will be given to a technology start-up for promising new technology with potential for commercialization.
- Cash Awards of 15 Lakh.
