Deadline: 31-Dec-2025
The Calgary Foundation’s Strategic Opportunity Grants offer vital support to small charities in Calgary and the surrounding area that are ready to strengthen their operations or develop innovative programs.
These grants focus on two key areas of growth: Organizational Development and Program Development. Organizational Development provides support for charities seeking to enhance their internal capacity by bringing in external expertise, improving staff learning, or developing stronger internal systems. This stream helps organizations build the foundation they need to deliver services more effectively and sustainably.
Program Development, by contrast, is aimed at organizations that wish to improve outcomes for their external clients. This can include exploring new program models, designing fresh approaches to service delivery, or piloting creative outreach strategies. By investing in innovation, charities can expand their reach and respond to changing community needs in meaningful ways.
With a maximum grant amount of $15,000, the Strategic Opportunity Grants provide the flexibility and resources small charities need to pursue growth, innovation, and greater impact within their communities.
Examples of eligible activities under the grant include volunteer program development, diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, professional learning and development for staff, and the creation of new community engagement strategies. All approved activities must begin after the grant approval date to ensure that projects are planned and implemented with clear purpose and direction.
This funding opportunity is designed for organizations with an annual operating budget of up to $2,000,000 that are registered charities or qualified donees in good standing with the Canada Revenue Agency. Eligible organizations with new and forward-thinking initiatives are encouraged to submit their applications through the foundation’s online grant portal.
