The 2020/21 – 2022/23 Healthy Canberra Grants is seeking applications for community-based activities to improve the health of Canberrans, with a focus on improving the quality of life of those living with a chronic illness and/or building greater social connectedness within community.
Healthy Canberra Grants invites applications for programs that focus on improving quality of life for those in community who are living with one or more of the following chronic illnesses and empowering them to better manage their own care:
- arthritis
- asthma
- back problems, includes sciatica, disc disorders, back pain/problems not elsewhere classified and curvature of the spine
- cancer
- chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
- cardiovascular disease
- diabetes
- kidney disease
- osteoporosis
- mental health conditions
Program ideas that aim to improve the health and wellbeing of Canberran’s may include:
- Mentoring, sport or recreational activities
- Online engagement activities to support the social participation of people within their communities especially those activities that have been found to work well during COVID-19
- Encouraging older people to become volunteers at a local school or community group, where they can pass on their knowledge and skills
- Programs that increase people’s engagement with technology to increase social contacts, reduce isolation and improve quality of life, which is especially important for those who are housebound or have limited mobility due to their chronic illness
- Tailoring lifestyle interventions to improve physical and mental health specific to a chronic illness and providing engagement opportunities, for example exercise classes, relaxation meditation and/or mindfulness classes or yoga
- Innovative tailored programs that enable those living with a chronic illness to better manage their own care
- Group activities that provide opportunities for community members to build their confidence and practice new skills to become peer and community leaders of the future
- Social arts-based activities that bring people together to learn a new skill such as painting, sculpture or dance
Funding Information
- This funding opportunity provides up to $1.90 million in grants, for multi-year programs delivered from the 2020/21 financial year. They aim to fund programs of sufficient scale to produce measurable, positive health benefits across the ACT population.
- ACT invites applications for programs across the 2020/21, 2021/22 and 2022/23 financial years. Programs will commence from March 2021. Applications should demonstrate how the proposed program will become sustainable in the longer-term and not reliant on grant funding. Successful applicants should have no expectation that funding will be renewed beyond the grant period, or that receiving a grant in any way represents a commitment to recurrent funding.
Eligibility Criteria
- The applicant organisation must be one of the following types:
- a not-for-profit organisation incorporated in the ACT under the Associations Incorporation Act 1991
- a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee and incorporated under the Corporations Act 2001 (Commonwealth)
- a not-for-profit organisation with other legal status
- a government agency or statutory body working in partnership with a not-forprofit organisation
- an ACT Government school
- an Independent school, Catholic Systemic or Catholic Non-systemic school
- an accredited early childhood service or out of school hours program
- an unincorporated not-for-profit organisation in an auspice arrangement with one of the above
- Applicants (or auspice organisations) must have a current public liability insurance policy with cover of a minimum of $10 million per event. Applicants (or auspice organisations) without current insurance must provide evidence of a quotation for public liability insurance.
- Applicants (or auspice organisations) must have an ABN or provide evidence they have applied for one.
- Applicants must deliver grant funded activities in the ACT for ACT residents.
- Applicants must ensure that the declaration at the end of the application is made by the Chief Executive Officer, or equivalent, of the applicant organisation (or the auspice organisation if applicable). This person must have ultimate financial and management responsibility for the organisation.
- Applicants (and auspice organisations) must not have overdue reporting requirements including financial acquittal for any previous ACT Government grant.
- Applicants (or auspice organisations) must be a viable legal entity as defined by the Australian Tax Office. Applicants may be asked to provide copies of recent audited financial statements to help support their claim of financial viability.
- Applicants (or auspice organisations) must not be a political party.
