The Canada Post Community Foundation is seeking applications for its grant program.
The Community Foundation awards grants to Canadian schools, charities, and community organizations that make a difference in the lives of children and youth, up to the age of 21.
Focus Areas
- Community: Projects that support better futures for children including social services, arts and culture.
- Education: Projects that support education, therapeutic and rehabilitative programs.
- Health: Projects that support the health and physical activity of children from vulnerable communities or with disabilities or illnesses.
Types of Grants and Funding Information
- Community-based support projects: Eligible projects increase the capacity of an organization and create or expand services, rather than maintaining existing services. For example, purchasing new equipment or launching new programs. Project grants can total up to $25,000 each.
- Signature Grant: This grant contributes to the overall work and mission of national organizations that deliver programs or support to children and youth. Up to 3 Signature Grants of $50,000 each can be awarded each year.
- New Indigenous Truth and Reconciliation Signature Grant: The Indigenous Truth and Reconciliation Signature Grant will be awarded to a national organization offering programming anchored in the principles of Indigenous truth and reconciliation and supports Indigenous children and youth across the country.One (1) Indigenous Truth and Reconciliation Signature Grant of $50,000 can be awarded each year.
- The Canada Post Community Foundation has approximately $1.25 million available to grant in the 2022 grant cycle.
Eligibility Criteria
- be a registered charity with a Canadian Charitable Registration Number OR a registered non-profit organization with a valid B/N business registration number OR a school OR an unregistered community organization OR a community library OR a registered Canadian amateur athletic association;
- have a volunteer board of directors/organizing committee (this does not apply to schools and community libraries); paid employees can be used to deliver programming but the board of directors must be made up of unpaid positions; payment for expenses incurred by the directors is acceptable;
- have a detailed plan for the project being submitted (except for Signature Grant applications);
- have a budget for the project being submitted (except for Signature Grant applications);
Ineligible Projects
The following projects do not qualify for any of the Foundation grants.
- professional or amateur sports teams
- activities outside Canada
- debt reduction campaigns
- lobby, advocacy, or partisan groups that promote a particular social, political or economic point of view
- fundraising events or initiatives, such as golf tournaments, galas, runs or races
- brand or general advertising
- financial assistance for individuals
- trade shows
- organizations, political parties, or other programs that require, as a condition for receiving support or services, and adherence to, or promotion of a particular religious faith, political affiliation, or cultural group
- conventions, conferences, or events
- ongoing operating costs, such as administrative costs not directly linked to the delivery of front-line programs (Signature Grants are exempted from this clause)
- pure academic or basic research
- salaries and administrative costs for school employees
- school trips
- standard classroom supplies
- professional development
