Deadline: 4-May-22
The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) invites eligible Irish Research Performing Organisations (RPOs) to submit joint research proposals under the “Joint Call on Agrobiodiversity”.
The call contributes to the overall objectives of ERANETs to enhance European collaborative research between countries and thereby increase the quality of European research and innovation actions and their implementation in the agri-food forest and biobased sectors.
The purpose of the joint Call is to further strengthen and improve the capacity of the European Research Area to provide practical and policy-relevant knowledge on how agrobiodiversity can improve the resilience of agroecosystems, especially those most at risk, reinvigorate farming practices to increase ecological connectivity and improve biodiversity at the landscape level and to monitor and identify the opportunities and obstacles to diversification.
Areas
- Agricultural Genetic Resources: This includes research aiming to broaden the genetic base of crops to improve functional traits fit to sustainable food systems, and to increase tolerances to environmental conditions related to climate change.
- Agricultural Practices and Farm Models: This includes research leading to new agricultural practices, technologies, decision support systems, and business models that improve agricultural production and soil quality, creating economic, social, and environmental value through greater diversity of plant species and wider functional and response diversity.
- Agrobiodiversity and Territorial Systems: This includes research leading to an increased agrobiodiversity at the landscape level contributing also to the regeneration of low-quality agricultural habitats, to the enhancement of ecological connectivity, and to a better understanding of the links between farm diversity and landscape complexity.
Call Priorities
- Applications seeking grant-aid from Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) must be in line with the specified research topic areas related to the scope of the Central Call.
Funding Information
- The total funding commitment made to the Call by DAFM
- The maximum grant funding per project
Eligibility Criteria
- The National eligibility criteria for ERANETs primarily concentrates on the following:
- The DAFM approved the status of Irish Research Performing Organisations (RPOs).
- The grant funding request by Irish RPOs is within the parameters set out in the funding section of the National Annex and the funding Rules.
- The applicant addresses the scientific topic areas set out in the Central Call Document and, where applicable, addresses the relevant scientific topic areas related to the Call scope that are supported by DAFM.
- Avoid duplication of recent research work already undertaken or ongoing that incorporates the scope of the scientific topic areas in the Call.
- Closely aligns with relevant strategic research and innovation agendas or priorities.
- Aligns with relevant national policy and foresight documents that are identified in the National Annex of the Central Call Documentation.
