The Community Foundation is currently seeking applications for the Leadership Grants that play a key role in providing significant funding to projects that improve quality of life in Greater Des Moines.
They have intentionally evolved the grantmaking priorities and cycles to center grant awards around equity and support opportunities that create “tidal waves” of impact around community needs, challenges, and opportunities.
The Leadership Grant program awards grant to launch or scale-up initiatives positioned to strengthen the community in seven key focus areas drawn from community priorities. They focus the grantmaking on organizations serving Greater Des Moines, and the Better Together philosophy embraces projects that leverage the strengths of diverse stakeholders.
Characteristics
- Addresses one or more of the 2022 grantmaking priorities noting how the project utilizes equity-centered strategies for strengthening the community.
- Leverages other funders, partners, and/or stakeholders in a project that has broad community benefit in Greater Des Moines.
Funding Information
- Typically, Leadership Grants range from $25,000 to $250,000 although there is no formal minimum or maximum.
Eligibility Criteria
- The goal is to help facilitate strong applications.
- For this reason, they require potential applicants to explore project alignment with a member of the Community Impact team
Projects not Eligible
- Projects not eligible or competitive for the Leadership Grant program may be a better fit for the Capacity Building or Strategic Collaboration Grant programs or as funding needs posted to the GIVEdsm platform.

This might include:
- Ongoing annual operating and program expenses.
- Capital infrastructure projects (bricks and mortar) that do not have strong alignment with the grantmaking priorities.
- Sectarian religious programs promote a particular faith.
