The French Embassy in Japan is opening the 2023 edition of the “Exploration Japan” program, which offers mobility support for researchers from French institutions, wishing to establish initial contact with Japanese research teams in order to initiate new Franco-Japanese scientific collaborations.
The Japan Exploration program is a funding program implemented by the Department for Science and Technology and the Cultural Department of the French Embassy in Japan, for researchers from French institutions
The objective of this program is to enable researchers in France wishing to establish initial contact with Japanese research teams in their areas of expertise to initiate new Franco-Japanese collaborations.
Terms of Support
- The support granted to each winner will include the cost of a return plane ticket France-Japan in economy class, as well as subsistence allowances for a minimum of 2 days (i.e. 2 nights and 4 meals), calculated on the basis of a per diem package. The 2022 amount of the per-diem package was €196/day, the 2023 amount will be indicated when the results are announced.
- Note: The budget proposed by the French Embassy constitutes an incentive support called, if necessary, to be supplemented by another source of financing
- Therefore, any other funding necessary for carrying out the mission (additional overnight stays and meals, internal travel, travel for additional missionaries, etc.) must be provided by the laboratory’s own means or by other sources
Type of Projects
- The program supports scientific missions by researchers working in a French research institution, organized in Japan in 2023.
- Missions including in addition the visit of Japanese academic partners with the aim of initiating/formalizing institutional partnerships, such as student mobility, double degrees, etc., are eligible.
Eligibility Criteria
- The call for projects is open to researchers/teacher-researchers belonging to laboratories attached to higher education establishments, research organizations or French companies. Students are not eligible.
- Applications will be assessed according to the following criteria:
- Scientific excellence of the candidate
- Quality of the project (innovative nature, complementarity of skills, quality of invitation letters, etc.)
- Relevance of the mission project in Japan with regard to future collaborations envisaged
