The District of North Vancouver is seeking applications for its Sustainability Grants Program to support small-scale, community-based environment and sustainability projects that can help reach the climate action and ecosystem health goals.
Funding Information
- There is a total of $30,000 available for 2022, and District of North Vancouver anticipates successful projects will receive approximately $1,000 to $5,000.
Project Eligibility
District of North Vancouver is looking for community-led projects that address challenges in one or more of the following categories:
- Low carbon buildings and energy use reduction
- Goal: Reduce energy and emissions in existing buildings.
- Project Example:
- Energy conservation education and outreach programs.
- Low carbon and active transportation
- Goal: Address vehicle congestion, support active modes of transportation, and focus on safety for vulnerable road users.
- Project Example:
- Programs that support walking, rolling, and cycling.
- Increase pedestrian and cycling safety around schools and parks.
- An education and outreach program that promotes active transportation and road safety.
- Zero waste
- Goal: Shifting towards zero waste and a circular economy.
- Project Example:
- Host a recycling or upcycling community challenge.
- Initiate a neighborhood zero waste challenge event.
- Healthy ecosystems
- Goal: Working to restore, enhance, and protect the District’s natural ecosystems.
- Project Example:
- Plant rain gardens, native plants, or pollinator gardens.
- Education and outreach to raise awareness about local ecosystems and wildlife.
- Climate adaptation and resilience
- Goal: Make the community more adaptive and resilient to the impacts of climate change.
- Project Example:
- Initiatives to support vulnerable community members during extreme heat.
- Develop or maintain community or sharing gardens.
Eligibility Criteria
- Registered not-for-profit societies.
- Unincorporated local community associations.
- Groups and service clubs.
- Schools.
Ineligible
The sustainability grant program does not extend funding for projects which:
- Are for-profit commercial ventures.
- Are organized by a private enterprise.
- Receive grants from other District sources for the same purpose or duplicate work done by other program funding sources.
- Attract participants exclusively outside of the District of North Vancouver.
