The State Government of Victoria is pleased to announce the Aboriginal Sport Participation Grant Program.
The Aboriginal Sport Participation Grant Program provides grants to assist Aboriginal Victorians to participate in Aboriginal sporting carnivals, buy sports uniforms and equipment, as well as funding for travel and accommodation expenses for athletes to compete in state and national competitions.
The Program will assist Victorian Aboriginals to increase participation in sport and active recreation. Grants under the Program will be provided to:
- Teams, clubs and associations to participate in Aboriginal sporting carnivals and tournaments;
- Individuals, teams, clubs and associations to purchase uniforms and/or equipment;
- individuals to travel to and pay for accommodation expenses for athletes and coaches related to regional, state and national competitions or representative teams.

Funding Information
- Aboriginal Sporting Carnivals: Grants up to $1,500 for travel and accommodation costs for teams to participate in State-wide or National Carnivals.
- Uniforms or Equipment: Grants of up to $1,000 for teams, clubs and associations to purchase sporting uniforms and/or equipment and up to $250 for individuals.
- Athlete Participation Support: Grants of up to $750 for athletes and coaches to assist with travel and accommodation costs to compete or train in regional, state and national competitions or representative teams.
What will not be funded?
- Applications to deliver services to children if the organisation is not an incorporated separate legal entity and cannot provide evidence of appropriate insurance that covers child abuse
- Funding will not be provided to an organisation that has been notified by the National Redress Scheme Operator that it was named in an application prior to 1 July 2020, and does not join or intend to join the Scheme by 31 December 2020.
- funding will not be provided to an organisation named in an application in National Redress Scheme for the first time and receives a Notice of Redress Liability after 1 July 2020, and does not join the Scheme within six months from the date of the Notice of Redress Liability.
- Applications that are not from Victorian incorporated organisations
- University sport clubs that participate in inter-varsity competitions
- Project activity beginning, or uniforms or equipment purchased, prior to the closing date of each round
- Ongoing operational costs (for example, salaries for ongoing positions, rent, electricity and other utilities).
Eligibility Criteria

The applicant must meet all of the following seven criteria:
- The applicant must be non-government and not-for-profit.

The applicant must be operating in Victoria and registered as:
- An incorporated association under the Associations Incorporation Reform Act 2012 (Vic); or
- A company limited by guarantee under the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth); or
- An Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander corporation under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 (Cth),
- If the applicant is not an incorporated association, a company limited by guarantee or an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander corporation, it must nominate an auspice organisation to receive and auspice any grant funds paid in the event of a successful application.

In such instances, the nominated auspice organisation must:
- Be non-government and not-for-profit;
- Be operating in Victoria and registered as an incorporated association, public company limited by guarantee or an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander corporation;
- Meet all criteria
- If the application is successful, enter into a Grant Agreement with the Department; and
- Receive and auspice the grant funds and ensure the funds are used a specified in the application and in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Grant Agreement.
- The applicant must be delivering a sport or activity that is a person-centric physical activity. Organisations that encourage people to participate in traditional games, nature-based, outdoor activities (including sporting activities at camps) are eligible for funding.
- The applicant must adhere to and enforce the Fair Play Code, or the relevant State Sporting Association code of conduct and/or member protection policy, which incorporates the Fair Play.
- The applicant must comply with the expectations of the Victorian Anti-doping Policy 2012
- The applicant (and the auspice organisation if applicable) must have satisfactorily met reporting requirements on any grants previously received from the Department.
- If the applicant (or the auspice organisation if applicable) has been named in the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, or received notice that it was named in an application for redress to the National Redress Scheme for Institutional Child Sexual Abuse established under the National Redress Scheme for Institutional Child Sexual Abuse Act 2018 (Cth).
