The Government of Western Australia is accepting applications for the Access Asia Business Grants Program 2022 to support Western Australian small and medium businesses, and organisations such as Asian business councils and industry associations, to advance their export and trade in Asian markets and contribute to WA’s economic diversification.
Expressions of Interest (EOI) are invited from export-ready Western Australian-owned and/or operated small and medium enterprises and organisations that want to advance their international business efforts in Asian markets.
The Access Asia Business Grants program (AABG) is an initiative of the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation (the Department) to support Western Australian (WA) owned and/or operated small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and organisations advance their international business efforts in Asian markets.
Sectors
Proposed projects must be in one of the following sectors:
- Energy
- International education
- Defence industries
- Mining and mining equipment, technology and services (METS)
- Space industries
- Health and medical life sciences
- Primary industries
- Tourism, events and creative industries
Funding Information
Grants of up to $25,000 (excl. GST) per recipient* will be on a net co-investment basis at a rate no less than 20% (applicant) to 80% (Western Australian Government) funding. All co-investment items may be subject to an independent audit.
Eligible Activities
2022 grants will assist recipients to engage in activities that enable them to:
- adopt new business models to expand market share
- scope new supply or value chains
- develop export plans that manage COVID-19 implications
- access new Asian markets or sectors
- develop new partnerships through specialist in-market support and services
- increase innovation in logistics and supply chain models
- scope new e-commerce models and digital platforms
- gather in-market intelligence to capture new opportunities
- develop new marketing collateral for Asian markets.
Key Outcomes
- Increased trade and investment with Asia will create jobs and help drive WA’s economic diversification.
- New Asian markets for premium goods and innovative services will create a pipeline of jobs for Western Australians across supply chains.
- New partnerships in Asia to support tourism, local manufacturing, international education, renewable technologies and the development of the critical minerals sector will build investor confidence in WA’s skills and capabilities and drive industry development.
- Promoting WA’s strengths in innovative technologies in Asia will attract investment in emerging industries, creating pathways for skilled trainees and apprentices.
Eligibility Criteria
- SMEs (200 or fewer employees), owned and registered in WA for at least 24 months.
- Industry associations, Asian business councils and not-for-profit groups or entities registered in WA for at least 24 months.
- Previous recipients of an Access Asia Business Grant or Priority Sector Funding Grant can apply to a new AABG round after two years following successful acquittal of their previous project. The application must be for a new project.
