The Africa Advocacy Foundation (AAF) is inviting applications for the Community React Fund to support Covid-19 related projects targeting migrants who are undocumented and those with No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF).
Africa Advocacy Foundation is delighted to become an intermediary technical partner of Comic Relief to deliver the Global Majority Fund alongside 10 other specialist charities in the UK.
The initiative is aimed at communities experiencing racial and other inequalities and disproportionately impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
AAF aims to fund up to 25 London, Kent and Surrey based grassroots organisations working to address racial injustice, violence, poverty, disability, mental ill-health. and other long term conditions.
Funding Priorities
This fund will primarily but not exclusively target projects or initiatives that benefit African and Caribbean migrants who are undocumented or have No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF) and affected by racial injustice, violence, poverty, disability and mental ill-health within the following categories:
- Migrants who are at risk or victims of violence abuse
- Migrants experiencing mental health challenges
- Vulnerable young migrants and those who are unaccompanied
- Migrants experiencing any other Covid-19 related hardships
Funding Information
- Organisations can apply for grants between £5,000 and £10,000.
- Please note that organisations with annual incomes under £50,000 can apply for a maximum grant amount of £5,000.
What they will fund
They are flexible in our grant distribution approach and encourage eligible organisations to submit ideas/proposals based on real identified needs in their communities but generally falling under the following priorities.
- Delivery of essential support services to enable migrants who are undocumented or have no recourse to public funds (targeting individuals or families) to overcome the challenges and hardships faced due to the Covid-19 pandemic;
- Delivery of activities that promote resilience, safety, health and wellbeing as well as access to vital services.
What the funding can be used for.
- Direct project activity costs
- Project staff costs
- Volunteer costs
- Proportional share of general running costs
What they cannot fund
- Costs already incurred
- Equipment to give out to service users e.g., phones, laptops, tablets etc.
- Activities that generate profits for private gain
- Applications from organisations not working with migrants
- Applications from individuals.
- Activities promoting religious beliefs.
- Academic research.
- Fundraising appeals.
- Fees for professional fundraisers
- Services run by statutory or public authorities – we will not support work that is a statutory duty.
Eligibility Criteria
If you meet all of the following requirements, you can apply for a grant:
- Your organisation is registered charity, community interest company or unregistered but constituted community organisation.
- Your organisation directly works with undocumented migrants and migrants with no recourse to public funds (NRPF)
- The project and funding required is specifically related to working with undocumented migrants and migrants with no recourse to public funds (NRPF) who have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic
- Your organisation has an annual income of less than £100,000 (averaged over the last three years if relevant)
- Your organisation’s accounts are independently verified each year
- Your organisation has its own bank account with at least two unrelated signatories
- Your organisation has a governing body with at least three unrelated members
- Your organisation is based in and will deliver the project within the Greater London, Kent or Surrey areas
- You are applying for project costs.
- You have appropriate core policies including safeguarding, equality and diversity etc.
