The National Park Service (NPS) is pleased to launch African American Civil Rights (AACR) History Grants Program to fund history and preservation projects suing the NPS report, Civil Rights in America, A Framework for Identifying Significant Sites, as a guide in determining the appropriateness of proposed projects and properties.

- History projects must range from $15,000 to $50,000 in federal share.
- Eligible costs include survey, planning, collections conservation, and documentation of historic sites/events, as well as the creation of interpretive and educational materials around significant sites (including oral histories).
- Successful applications will emphasize innovative strategies, creative projects with measurable results, and include cross generational engagement that promote and preserve the community’s history.
- Expected Number of Awards: 55
- Based on prior years, the NPS anticipates funding between 30 and 70 projects for both history and preservation projects combined. The FY2021 and FY2022 appropriations for this program may be combined to total at least $16,750,000 (FY2021 appropriation) and awarded dependent on receipt of sufficient eligible applications.
- Projects receiving funding through this Notice of Funding Opportunity will start once funding has been secured and awards have been made. Agreements are not effective until released through Grant Solutions by the NPS Financial Assistance Awarding Officer (FAAO).

- Grants are not available for sites or collections owned by the NPS
