The Honourable John G. Abbott, Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development, was joined by the Honourable Krista Lynn Howell, Minister of Municipal and Provincial Affairs, is pleased to announce a call for applications for the 2022-23 Age-Friendly Newfoundland and Labrador Communities Program.
This program is well recognized throughout Canada and internationally as an effective mechanism for proactive planning for demographic change. The Age-Friendly Newfoundland and Labrador Communities Program assists incorporated municipalities, local service districts, and Indigenous governments and organizations, in making their communities more age-friendly.
Funding stream
The program has two funding streams:
Planning stream
- The Planning stream provides applicants with an opportunity to demonstrate an age-friendly focus on all aspects of the planning process, setting a foundation for the success of future Stream 2 projects grants. Planning activities may include:
- completion of an age-friendly community or regional assessment and development of an action plan that addresses one or more of the eight domains of age-friendly communities; gold
- adding an age-friendly lens to existing or new plans or policies, such as:
- municipal plans;
- zoning and other bylaws (subdivision, snow removal, parking, etc.);
- emergency management plans;
- municipal regulations;
- active transportation planning;
- recreation master planning;
- food security and food systems planning; and
- community planning processes related to affordable housing, homelessness.
Project stream
- The Projects stream provides funding to carry out one or more of the actions (projects) identified in the planning phase.
Funding Information
- Successful applicants may receive up to $10,000. Collaboration between two or more communities is strongly encouraged.
- Applications demonstrating a regional approach may be eligible for up to $15,000.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible applicants must:
- be either a:
- Municipality;
- Indigenous Governments; gold
- Not for profit organization with an age-friendly mandate (must be incorporated).
- have completed all past reporting requirements; and
- have completed an age-friendly assessment and action plan or demonstrate that their municipal or equivalent plan is inclusive of the eight domains of age-friendly communities (Stream 2 only).
Local service districts, businesses, crown corporations, public health and education institutions, and individuals are not eligible to apply, but are encour aged to partner with eligible applicants.
