Applications are now open for the Jim Joel Fund Program to support the early childhood development (ECD) sector in South Africa mainly by funding the work of resource and training organisations (RTOs) who train and support ECD practitioners working in centre-based and non-centre based programmes.
In South Africa, The Childwick Trust operates under the name The Jim Joel Fund.
What the Jim Joel Fund supports?
The Jim Joel Fund currently supports the early childhood development sector through its funding to Resource and Training Organisations (RTOs) that provide holistic programmes to support the growth, development and education of young children aged birth to five. The direct beneficiaries of The Jim Joel Fund’s investments are predominantly women who are most likely to care for and nurture young children.
Projects and programmes that are delivered by RTOs:
- accredited Level 4 and 5 NQF training
- skills based courses
- parenting courses
- home visiting programmes
- onsite enrichment programmes
- capacity building and mentoring programmes for NGO leaders
- materials development
- outreach programmes
- playgroups
- toy libraries
- support to ECD networks
- operational costs funding
What they don’t fund?
- Pre-schools. Please note that they do not fund any private, community and/or home based pre-schools
- Anything unrelated to training and support of early childhood development programmes in South Africa
- Capital costs i.e. purchase of a vehicle or building costs of any kind
- Bursaries
- Attendance at international or local conferences
- Research
Eligibility Criteria
- The Jim Joel Fund is the South African conduit for funding from The Childwick Trust in the UK and currently supports a number of RTOs working in the ECD sector.
