Deadline: 3-Jun-22
Applications are now open for the Somerset Fund which helps you to make your community stronger by providing the places and spaces for people to get together.
Priorities
They want to use this fund to support village halls or community centres, community shops, cafés or foodbanks, sports clubs or playing fields, or community events and activities. It's about helping you make your community stronger by providing the places and spaces for people to get together.
They're more likely to give you money if your group:
- Is based in a more disadvantaged community. Our team check the Index of Multiple Deprivation to see if you are in a richer or poorer part of Somerset. The Government publishes this Index, and you can look at it here
- Actively works with other groups in your area to make sure everyone can benefit from what you provide
- Have reported back well on any previous grants they have given you
- Has not had money from The Somerset Fund in the last year.
Funding Information
- The Somerset Fund has about £100,000 to give out this year.
- You can ask for £250 – £2,500. They expect most of the grants they give out to be around £1,500.
What can you use the money for?
This can include essential running costs, like rent, utilities, insurance, or staff time. You might call these your core costs. You can also use the money for the costs of delivering a project or service in or for your community.
Criteria
You can only apply if your group:
- Is based in Somerset (but not BANES or North Somerset)
- Usually runs on less than £100,000 a year
- Is run by a committee or board of at least 3 unrelated people
- Has a governing document or set of rules
- Has an appropriate level of free reserves.
- Has a bank account in its name, which requires two unrelated signatures
- Exists to support your community and doesn't make a profit for any directors, members, or shareholders.
That means charities, community groups, sports clubs, and also social enterprises that are limited by guarantee and have a clear asset lock benefitting Somerset communities, can usually apply.
