Deadline: 6-Jul-25
Independent digital media outlets in Pakistan now have an opportunity to secure financial support through a new grant program designed to boost long-term sustainability and innovation in journalism. The newly announced funding aims to help strengthen the viability of small, independent media platforms that are not affiliated with legacy print or broadcast media groups.
Eligible organizations can apply for funding of up to PKR 850,000. The grant is intended to back innovative projects that support revenue generation, business development, or financial resilience. It’s a strategic opportunity for digital publishers facing challenges in today’s fast-changing media landscape.
To qualify, applicants must be based in Pakistan and operate as an independent digital media outlet. They should not be part of any legacy media institution, either through ownership or affiliation. Applying organizations must have been consistently publishing content for at least one year and be able to provide evidence of their audience reach via web or platform analytics. Legal registration or proof of an ongoing registration process is also required.
Organizations must designate at least two team members to lead the implementation of their proposed project. Priority will be given to those that show a genuine need for support, a sound plan for revenue or business growth, and clear steps toward financial independence. Outlets that already have a written business strategy or demonstrate prior initiatives to innovate financially will be viewed favorably.
Special consideration will also be given to media entities led by women or representing marginalized or underserved communities and regions.
This grant marks an important step in empowering grassroots digital journalism in Pakistan, giving smaller voices the chance to thrive financially and reach wider audiences.
