The Community Impact Grant program is an annual grants program delivered by the Ballarat Foundation United Way Inc. (the Ballarat Foundation), in a bid to break the cycle of disadvantage within the Ballarat and surrounding areas.
The Community Impact Grants Program is an annual grants program, incorporating The Courier Charity Fund, Wendouree-Delacombe Fund, the James Petrie Fund, Adroit Risk and Insurance Fund, Janine Owen Fund, Advanced Cabinetry Fund, Integra Group Fund, Feed Ballarat Fund, Young Ambition Fund and the Canny Family Fund.
Focus Areas
- Food Security: Examples include, but are not limited to, projects which aim to improve access to food for disadvantaged or vulnerable communities; to improve food literacy; to support cooking skills; to improve food production and purchase education.
- Young People: Examples include, but are not limited to, projects which aim to improve access to nonschool education programs or projects for disadvantaged or vulnerable communities; to improve literacy and numeracy skills; to provide greater access to opportunities for social skill building; to improve facilities to encourage increased physical activity.
- Mental Wellbeing: Examples include, but are not limited to, projects which aim to improve access to mental health education programs or projects for disadvantaged or vulnerable communities; to improve mental wellbeing awareness; to provide greater access to opportunities for people at risk to engage in activities which promote mental wellbeing.
- Wendouree-Delacombe: Projects which seek to improve social outcomes within the suburbs of Wendouree and/or Delacombe (postcodes 3355 and 3356).
Funding Information
- Grants are available in two tiers.
- Tier 1: Up to $15,000 (maximum of five grants available annually)
- Tier 2: Up to $3000. Application requirements are less than those for Tier 1 projects.
- All grants are non-recurrent and are to be used within the 12-month period.
What will they fund?
- Projects that have a positive impact on Wendouree-Delacomber communities, young people, food or housing security.
- Projects that promote collaboration within the community.
- Projects that seek to remove duplication and maximise resources within the community.
What they will not fund?
- Staff expenses.
- Operating or recurring costs (eg wages, insurances, utilities, rent, telephone, internet).
- Projects in which the funds will be removed from the Ballarat or surrounding local government areas or where the project activity is carried out outside these areas.
- Retrospective funding (including funding requests where the project commences between the grant round closing date and the allocation date).
- Prizes or gifts.
- Interstate or international travel and accommodation costs.
- Applications from organisations with ACNC registration will be considered prior to applications from nonACNC registered organisations.
Eligibility Criteria
- To be eligible to apply for a Community Impact Grant from the Ballarat Foundation you must be able to demonstrate that your application:
- Will impact and benefit the Ballarat and surrounding local government areas.
- Aligns with at least one Ballarat Foundation Community Grant focus area
- Applicants will be asked to confirm their charitable status, including current registration on the Australian Charities and Not for Profits Commission (ACNC) register. If your organisation does not meet this requirement, you must state, with examples, how the project is charitable as defined in the Charities Act (2013).
- Applications can be received for multiple projects from a single organisation.
- Projects will be funded for a maximum of three consecutive years, commencing in 2022. Projects funded prior to 2022 will be considered as not having been previously funded for the purposes of this clause.
Who can not apply?
- cannot be an individual
- cannot be: a government institution; registered training organisation; school; university; sole trader or a private company (unless its constitution requires the company to pursue charitable purposes only); political party; or religious organisations when funds would be used in whole or in part to further the organisation’s religious purposes.
- Applicants which have failed to acquit any grants from previous Ballarat Foundation distributions will be ineligible to apply. This relates to any projects or programs operated by the applicant.
