Deadline: 31-Jul-21
Fanak Fund is launching the General Fund for Artistic and Cultural Mobility in the region encompassing Europe, the Arab-speaking countries, and the wider Middle East.
Fanak Fund manages a Fund for Artistic and Cultural Mobility in the Euro-Arab-speaking-Middle East region and from this region to the rest of the world. Artists and cultural operators living and working in Europe, the Arab-speaking world and the Middle East can apply if a call is open. Priority is given to mobility from the South and East of this region.
Priorities
The Fanak Fund selection committee will take in consideration the following priorities:
- Travel must take into account the international transport restrictions in the country of departure and in the country of destination. Since the nature and length of these restrictions vary from one country to another and are often updated, they advise applicants to keep their choice of travel dates flexible.
- The aim of your trip must directly or indirectly contribute to sustainable, local cultural and artistic development.
- Applicant’s profile:
- Nationality: no nationality criteria
- Age: no age criteria
- Profession: artists and cultural operators.
- Applications must be made by individuals and not by organisations. Applicants must choose the cheapest form of transport and can only apply for one international return travel ticket, PCR tests, visa and insurance costs (local transport, per diems and accommodation are not covered by this fund).
Eligibility Criteria
If you would like to apply for a Fanak Fund travel grant you must respect the following criteria.
- You must make an individual request, written and sent by yourself. Requests sent by an organisation will not be accepted. Travel grants are allocated to individuals traveling alone or within a collective.
- Nationality is not an eligibility criterion but the candidate must be living and working in the Euro-Arab-Middle East geographical zone.
- There is no age limit.
- The candidate is unable to find funding for his or her travel.
- Fanak Fund will examine special cases (additional cost for accompanying person…). In this case please contact the Fund by email.
- Applicants must be artists (performer, creator, teacher) or operators working in the cultural sector (organiser, administrator, project manager).
- The trip must take place AFTER the opening date of the call. Bear in mind, that if you travel before the selection date (which is generally two months after the end of the call), you will not yet know if your grant is allocated or not when you buy your ticket. They advise you to plan travel three to six months in advance if possible.
- The aim of the candidate’s trip must be one of the following:
- Prepare a project.
- Take part in a residency.
- Take part in a meeting of artists and professionals with the aim of networking or encouraging links between cultural, artistic and development actors throughout the region.
- Artistic training (master classes, workshops …) or professional training (cultural policy, cultural management) either as a trainee or as a teacher.
- Take part in debates, conferences and seminars.
- The programme is open to the following artistic and cultural fields, either within transdisciplinary or monodisciplinary projects.
- Contemporary live arts: new theatrical forms, new writing for theatre, drama, contemporary dance, circus, street performances in situ, puppet theatre, all music projects and inter-disciplinary projects.
- Visual arts including photography, film, digital arts and video arts.
- Literature: travel for authors’ meetings, writing workshops, poetry…
- Architecture, Design, Fashion, Crafts.
- Cultural projects.
- The trip must contribute to cultural development at local level and the emancipation of populations in the countries of destination or departure. The candidate must develop local initiatives on his/her return that contribute to the cultural dynamism of his or her own country or region. They must be committed to transmitting the benefits of their experience abroad to the other artists and operators in their region in a networking fashion.
- The eligible directions of mobility are as follows:
- Arab-speaking countries, Middle East > Arab-speaking countries, Middle East
- Arab-speaking countries, Middle East > Member States of the Council of Europe
- Member States of the Council of Europe > Arab-speaking countries, Middle East
- In certain cases, Fanak Fund can support travel to global destinations from the Arab-speaking countries and the Middle-East.
- Travel from other continents such as the Americas or Asia are not eligible.
- An applicant can receive up to 3 travel grants, only one grant per call. The office also informs the experts on the number of grants that a project or organisation has indirectly benefited from.
- The request must be complete.
- Estimation of travel expenses must be plausible. Applicants who argue the ecologically low impact of their travel (using the train instead of the plane for example) will be prioritized. If the applicant is applying for a road trip, then the reimbursement will be based on the cost of an equivalent low-cost airline ticket.
