Abertine Rift Conservation Society (ARCOS) is currently accepting proposals for its Small Grants Programme with an aim to enhance collaborative sustainable solutions for biodiversity and people, focusing on critical landscapes and watersheds of the Albertine Rift, the Great Lakes Region of East and Central Africa and the African Mountains.

- Sustainable Mountain Development for Global Change (SMD4GC)
- Addressing threats affecting freshwater ecosystems in the African Great Lakes Region
Objectives
- To catalyse lasting solutions for biodiversity conservation and sustainable development issues in the Great Lakes region and African Mountains (this could include new activities that the grantee commit to conduct as part of its regular operations such as resource monitoring, biodiversity protection, promotion of good practices such as agroforestry, etc).
- To facilitate networking and formation of solid partnerships amongst conservation practitioners in the Great Lakes region and African Mountains in order to make a strong voice and influence policies that affects the management of biodiversity and other natural resources.
- To enhance Integrated Water Resources Management in the Great Lakes Region through the promotion of community-based watershed management schemes and good land management and farming practices.
- To promote sustainable mountain development and lasting solutions addressing drivers of change in African mountain ecosystems.

Funding Information
- The maximum grants are available of US$ 5,000.
- The average of grants will be around US$3,000.
Eligibility Criteria
- This call concerns applicants involved in the Great Lakes Freshwater Ecosystem of Central and Eastern Africa (Ethiopia, Kenya, South Sudan, Uganda, D.R Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique)
- Only initiatives where a civil society organization is the main applicant are eligible. Government authorities and for-profit (commercial, private market, etc) actors cannot apply but may participate as cooperation partners in the project, or be part of a coalition where a civil society organization is the main applicant.
